A serene image of a student studying in the faculty hollow, the beauty of fall reflected in a window of Edwards Hall, an athlete swimming in the Ivor Wynne Centre pool, and the warmth of the biology greenhouse on a cold day, are just some of the images found at Picture McMaster — a new self-serve photo gallery that offers a wide array of images from across campus.

To launch this new service, McMaster faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members are invited to participate in a photo contest. Contestants are encouraged to “picture McMaster” in a unique and innovative way. Electronic entries must be in one of four categories: people, buildings, campus scenes and sports. Winning entries will be displayed on the Picture McMaster Web site (http://www.picturemcmaster.ca). Click here to read the photo contest terms and conditions.

Upon arrival to Picture McMaster, users will be prompted to apply for a password, which will be sent to them by e-mail. A username and password must be entered each time a user visits the site. Images can be searched using either the search bar or by scanning through images divided into categories on the left side of the page. Saved at a high resolution, the images are divided into five categories: buildings, campus scenes, people, sports and photos of the day. The site will continue to grow as new categories and images are added.

The gallery also offers two unique features, including a Photo of the Day and Snapshot section. The Photo of the Day is a selection of images, chosen each month by the photo gallery editors, which display intriguing places and people on campus. The Snapshot section displays an image the represents the season or an event happening on campus and assists the user in searching for images.

An important feature of the gallery is the copyright policy. This category outlines the terms of usage for using photos from the gallery, which are copyrighted to McMaster's Office of Public Relations. Click here to read the copyright policy.
