Posted on Feb. 3: McMaster basketball teams face Brock for Bromac Cup

[img_inline align=”right” src=”http://padnws01.mcmaster.ca/images/basketball_pic.jpg” caption=”Marauders”]McMaster Marauder's women's and men's basketball teams will face the Brock University Badgers Wednesday in a battle for the Bromac Cup.

The Bromac Cup is awarded annually to the winner of the “home and home” series between McMaster University and Brock University men's and women's basketball teams.

Riding a three-game winning streak, the women's team will take on the Badgers at 6 p.m. at the Bob Davis Gymnasium on the Brock University Campus in St. Catharines. Brock University defeated McMaster 67-53 on Oct. 29. McMaster must win by 15 points to recapture the Bromac Trophy which they claimed in 2003.

The Brock Badgers are coached by 22-year veteran Chris Critelli, who won her 300th career victory on the same day as McMaster men's head coach Joe Raso.

The fourth-ranked McMaster Marauders men's basketball team also will face the ninth-ranked Brock Badgers in a battle for the Bromac Cup at 8 p.m. McMaster defeated Brock 86-74 on Nov. 19. Brock must win by 13 points to pry the Bromac trophy from the 2003 champion McMaster Marauders.

Basketball alumni are invited to attend a reception to be held in the
Brock Dance Studio above the gymnasium between the women's and men's
game.

Both McMaster basketball teams rallied to defeat The University of Western Ontario Mustangs at McMaster's Marauder Weekend. The men's team won 81-74, while the women's team won 75-57.

Volleyball teams to play final home double-header Wednesday

The McMaster volleyball teams will compete in the last home regular season double-header Wednesday, Feb. 2, as they both compete for a berth in the playoffs.

The fifth-place women's volleyball team will meet the second place University of Guelph Gyphons at the Burridge gymnasium at 6 p.m. The top four teams in the OUA West Division make the playoffs.

McMaster is competing with the University of Windsor for the final playoff spot, but could finish as high as first. McMaster has four games remaining, while Windsor has only one.

This past weekend, McMaster was defeated by Wilfrid Laurier 3-1.

The sixth place McMaster men's volleyball team will meet the third place University of Guelph Gyphons Wednesday at the Burridge Gymnasium at 8 p.m. The top six teams will make the playoffs.

McMaster is competing with Ryerson University for the final playoff spot. McMaster has two games remaining, while Ryerson has three.

This past weekend, McMaster defeated Wilfrid Laurier 3-2. McMaster fell to the first place University of Toronto.
