An informal gathering of friends, family and colleagues will be held to celebrate the life of John “Butch” MacDonald, head of shipping and receiving at Titles Bookstore.

The gathering will take place Friday, March 2, in the Great Hall of the Faculty Club from 6 to 8 p.m. Flags on campus are at half mast today.

MacDonald, 52, died Sunday when his van slipped off an icy road near Mount Hope and crashed into a utility pole.

Bookstore manager Bob Crawford said MacDonald, a 34-year University employee, was a strong, loyal employee and family man who believed in duty and had a great sense of purpose.

“He worked very hard in the store,” said Crawford. “We have a small shipping area, about 500 square feet, and he was always proud of the fact that when books came in, they were received and shipped out down to the sales floor the same day.”

MacDonald was also known to many because of the many baseball teams he played on and his involvement in the Glanbrook Hockey Association.

MacDonald is survived by his wife Angelika Reinold, four children and three grandchildren.
