In her presentation called “Twenty-first Century Health Threats: Preparedness in a Small World”, Gerberding discussed her leadership role on the front lines tackling threats to public health ranging from bioterrism to SARS, West Nile virus, mad cow disease and currently avian influenza or bird flu.

Prior to the lecture, Gerberding, also known as the chief U.S. disease detective, met with the media at a news conference in a Health Sciences Centre laboratory. Also in attendance were, pictured in the photo from left, John Kelton, dean and vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Peter George, President of McMaster University.
