This information is provided by the University's bargaining team.

On December 14, 2000 the University presented an initial monetary offer to the
McMaster University Staff Association that provided a wage increase of
approximately 10% over the term of the Collective Agreement. The
suggested expiry date for the proposed four-year Collective Agreement would be June
15, 2003. To date, the University has not had a response to this monetary
offer from MUSA.

The monetary offer is complex. We believe it is important to clarify the
provisions of the offer and to ensure you have correct information. The monetary offer would result in the following percentage payments and adjustments:

Year one: 2.0% one-time payment for each period June 1999 to June 2000, June 2000 to June 2001

Year two: 3.2% one-time payment covering June 2000 to June 2001

Year three: 5.2% increase to base salary effective June 16, 2001

Year four: 2.5% increase to base salary effective June 16, 2002

In addition to the adjustments noted above, the monetary offer provides up
to 2.0% for base salary increases on average in year three for the implementation of the
new salary grid currently being negotiated with MUSA.

The impact of the monetary offer is shown in the following examples.

On an annual salary of $30,000:

Year one:$30,000 X 2.0% X 2 = $ 1,200 -one-time payment

Year two:$30,000 X 3.2% = $ 960 -one-time payment

Year three:

$30,000 plus 5.2% = $31,560 -across-the-board increase to base salary

$31,560 plus 2.0% = $32,191 -average increase to base salary for grid implementation

Year four:

$32,191 plus 2.5% = $32,996 -across-the-board increase to base salary

Total one-time payments = $2,160

Increase to base salary = $2,996

On an annual salary of $ 40,000:

Total one-time payments = $2,880

Increase to base salary = $3,995

On an annual salary of $50,000:

Total one-time payments = $3,600

Increase to base salary = $4,993
