Posted on Feb. 11: McMaster to host OUA women’s waterpolo championship

McMaster will host the OUA women's waterpolo championship Feb. 14-15.

McMaster advances to the championship along with Queens, Toronto and Carleton.

McMaster has outscored opponents 138-47 and defeated Michigan State University in early January. The Marauders have put together an incredible 39-0 regular season record over the past three years. In 2003, the Marauders were 12-0 before falling to York University twice at the championship. The McMaster Marauders captured the OUA Championship in 2002.

The OUA championship format consists of a round robin amongst the four teams with two teams advancing to a bronze medal game, and the other two moving on to compete for gold, and the OUA championship.

McMaster will begin competition Saturday, with games against the University of Toronto at 10 a.m. and Queen University at 4 p.m. McMaster will complete round robin play on Sunday as they match up against Carleton University at 10 a.m.

The medal round games will be played on Sunday with the bronze medal game scheduled for 2:30 p.m. with the gold medal match following at 4 p.m.

OUA swimming championship

The McMaster men's and women's swim team will compete in the OUA championships this weekend in Ottawa.

The McMaster men's team will look to defend their 2003 OUA championship. McMaster has captured seven provincial titles in the past 10 years. The University of Toronto has won the other three championships. In November, McMaster edged out the University of Guelph by 26 points to capture the Eynon Division Championship. Malcolm MacDonald, a third-year commerce student finished the meet with three wins.

The McMaster Women's team will be looking to knock off the three-time defending champions from the University of Toronto. McMaster finished second in 2003, and has won five OUA championships in the past decade. The University of Toronto has won the other five banners. In November, McMaster won the Eynon Division Championship by an astonishing 300 points. Carly Cermak, Naomi Cermak and Dee Milne led the way by qualifying for the CIS championships in March.

McMaster assistant swim coach, Grey Fairley will be in Ottawa. His brother Quinn will be coaching the McMaster women's waterpolo team this at the OUA women's waterpolo championships in Hamilton.
