The conference was organized by the 'Working at McMaster' Career Planning and Development Steering Committee, whose objective is to promote the values of career planning and development within the McMaster employee community.

The event featured several distinguished keynote speakers, session leaders and facilitators, including Jane Farrow, radio host of the CBC program 'Workology', who spoke on the 'Wild World of Work'. Gordon Cressy, president of Canadian Tire Foundation for Families and Community Investment, gave a presentation entitled: 'Dreaming and Doing: Inspiring From Within'.

Other contemporary career and personal development topics were 'mentoring', 'work/life balance', 'skills and why they matter', 'gossip; and 'the caregiving circus'. McMaster facilitators included Chris Coupland, Anju Joshi, David Lawson, Anne Markey, Peter Turner and Geraldine Voros.

Entertainment was also provided throughout the day with the awarding of draw prizes including the loaning of McMaster President Peter George's parking spot. In mid-afternoon, the 'Chief Fairy' from Joie de Vivre appeared to sprinkle playful magic with treat packages.

The members of the 'Working at McMaster' Career Planning and Development Steering Committee were thrilled with the events of the day and the enthusiastic responses they received from those who attended the conference.

Setting the tone for the day, conference chair Tina Horton of Part-Time Degree Studies, Office of the Registrar, said, “This is 'Lighten Up' week. Your goal today why not everyday is to beat the winter blahs, learn something new, have some fun, share a few laughs.”

Members of the 'Working at McMaster' Career Planning and Development Steering Committee include Tina Horton (chair), Delia Hutchinson, David Lawson, Barb Macdonald, Ruth Nicholson, Cate Walker-Hammond, Janet Walsh, Grazyna Ziolkowski, Peter Turner and Anthony Celani.

The members invite other interested employees to join the committee (for information contact Anthony Celani at ext. 23554)
