Born in Montreal in 1929, Betty Goodwin is a contemporary Canadian icon whose powerful works have influenced a generation of Canadian artists. Goodwin began her career in the 1940s and rose to prominence in the late 1960s, when she began to run actual objects through the printing press. Her innovative series of vests, shirts and gloves made in this way are poignant evocations of the human presence and as well as being textural masterpieces. These representations established her reputation in the printmaking medium.

The Prints of Betty Goodwin, organized and circulated by the National Gallery of Canada, is curated by Rosemarie Tovell, Curator, Canadian Prints and Drawings, NGC. The National Gallery has the largest collection anywhere of Goodwin's art. Through this exhibition, visitors will have a chance to discover some works never before displayed.
