In recent years, McMaster University has attracted increasing numbers of international students and students for whom English is not their first language. In recognition of the needs of these students the University is now offering English language courses in reading and writing, and listening and speaking. The programs are designed to teach these skills with specific emphasis on academic applications and preparation to enter the workforce.

The new courses will be offered over a 10-week period, commencing in September and January. Rosette Adera and Claire Rivlin have been hired to teach these new programs. The courses will complement existing ESL support services such as the Speak Easy program, Conversation Circles and the Opening Doors program. For more information about registration and about ESL Support services at McMaster, visit http://csd.mcmaster.ca/ESL.htm

To speak with Adera or Rivlin, call ext. 26343 or e-mail them at csdesl@mcmaster.ca

This new program has been initiated by Phil Wood, AVP Student Affairs, with support from the McMaster Student Union, the International Students' Advisor, the Career Planning & Employment Centre and the Centre for Student Development. The program has received further support from the Faculty of Science. A one-year pilot has been established where these new programs will be tested and integrated with existing support programs for ESL students.
