The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will hold training camp at McMaster University, May 22 to June 6.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cat players and staff will be staying at McMaster residences including the newly opened Mary E. Keyes Residence. Meals will be provided by McMaster Hospitality Services, the Grand Prize winners at the 2003 Culinary Challenge at the Canadian College and University Food Services Association Conference. The team will practice at Les Prince Stadium and the Back 10 fields.

The announcement further connects the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and McMaster University.

Hamilton Tiger-Cat owner Bob Young received the idea to purchase the team from his friend Ron Harwood, a systems engineer at McMaster University, who told him in August that the Canadian Football League was looking for a new owner in Hamilton.

On December 12, 2004, Young hired McMaster University head coach Greg Marshall as head coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, making Marshall the first Canadian university coach to directly assume head coaching duties in the CFL.

Greg Marshall has since signed McMaster graduates Ryan Donnelly (2001), Kojo Aidoo (2003), and Mike Morreale (1994).

Hamilton Tiger-Cat head coach Greg Marshall said “holding training camp in Hamilton will allow the Hamilton media and fans access to our team. It also allows the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to continue to build a relationship with McMaster University.”

McMaster University President and Vice-Chancellor, Peter George commented that “McMaster University welcomes the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Hosting the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will help McMaster with enhanced public profile, and particularly with the recruitment of student-athletes and the further development of the best University coaching staff in Canada.”
