This spring, the very first class will graduate from McMaster's multimedia program.

To mark this special event, the University community is invited to a Multimedia Fest, which showcases the talents of graduating students.

Multimedia Fest begins today, Wednesday, April 10, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and continues Thursday, April 11, from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Togo Salmon Hall, Room 202B.

Visitors will be able to see students' portfolios and experiment
with interactive computer-based final thesis projects.

Event organizer Shawn Gagne, a Level III multimedia and geography student, expects visitors will be impressed by the variety of work on display.

Thesis projects are inspired by the student's second subject (multimedia is offered as a combined honours program) and reflect the versatility of multimedia and its many applications.

To mention just a few examples, an art student has recreated a famous baseball stadium using 3D animation, a geography student has based her work on GIS, and a philosophy student explores post-modernist movements through Web technologies.

“Both the left and right sides of your brain are engaged in this program,” says Gagne, who likes both the practical and artistic possibilities of multimedia.

He hopes to build the showcase into an annual event, one which the
McMaster community and industry professionals will mark in their calendars each year.
