Possible labour disruption involving Hamilton Street Railway

January 30, 2012 – The City of Hamilton and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 107 have reached a tentative agreement through collective bargaining.
The ATU negotiating committee will present the tentative agreement to their membership within the next week with a recommendation to accept the deal.
January 26, 2012 – The City of Hamilton is currently bargaining with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local
107, which represents Hamilton Street Railway bus drivers. The two parties are
scheduled to next meet on Friday, January 27. If a deal can't be reached, both sides will
be in a legal strike or lockout position as of 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 30.
Should a strike or lockout occur, you can anticipate traffic delays in and around Hamilton. Your travel time to and from campus will likely be lengthened. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to give themselves additional time when travelling to the University for classes or work.
Should there be a disruption, the University will take the following steps:
-ease the conditions around the purchasing of car pool parking permits which are available at the ET Clarke Centre on the west side of campus
-designate an area on campus near the Main Street entrance for student, faculty, staff and visitor express drop off
-encourage the use of alternate transportation modes
-remind community members that other public transportation, such as GO Transit, is not impacted by the HSR service disrupted
The community is also encouraged to stay up-to-date on the potential HSR service disruption by visiting this page, McMaster's Facebook page or McMaster's health, safety and emergency updates Twitter page.
The potential strike or lockout will not affect GO Transit service to campus.
