Pediatrician receives Sibley teaching award

Moyez Ladhani, assistant clinical professor of pediatrics, has been described as a gifted educator who makes academic learning fun and exciting, and is highly praised across the subspecialties of family medicine, anesthesia, perinatology, neonatology and general pediatrics.
Ladhani is the recipient of the 2002 John C. Sibley Award. The award, named in memory of the former associate dean of education, was established in 1985 with the intent to acknowledge special qualities and special commitment among part-time faculty.
Ladhani has been recognized for his achievements through several honors and awards, including nominations for PAIRO teaching awards, leading to the receipt of the PAIRO excellence in clinical teaching award in 2001.
“Dr. Ladhani's extraordinary accomplishments in both postgraduate and continuing education, speak to his excellence as a role model for community consulting pediatricians and his teaching of family practice as well as pediatric residents,” said John Watts, acting chair of pediatrics. “His personality, commitment and accomplishments mirror those of Jack Sibley himself.”
As a member of the pediatric postgraduate education committee, Ladhani completely revised the format and structure of the academic half-day for the pediatric residency program at McMaster. This led to a comprehensive review of pediatrics over a two-year period and the development of objective structured evaluation stations for pediatric residents in preparation for the Royal College exams. He also co-pioneered an educational package on breast-feeding for healthcare professionals.
According to Bosco Paes, Ladhani is an extremely high achiever who has contributed effectively to the educational, administrative, and clinical components of the pediatric program, through tutorship of Unit V medical students, his advisory role with pediatric residents, and as a member of the pediatric postgraduate educational committee.
Highly sought after by students for elective learning experiences because of his high standards of care and commitment to learning, their evaluations of Ladhani have been outstanding, being acknowledged both for his evidence-based practice and his enduring professionalism and teaching.
Nominators described Ladhani as “a front runner among his colleagues, having raised the benchmark for general consultant pediatricians by several notches, always open and committed in his interactions with individuals at all levels of their training and committed to the principles and philosophies in the University setting.”
In addition to Ladhani, the following part-time faculty members were nominated for their excellent contributions and sustained commitment to faculty programs and students.
