The event was organized by the Campus Plan Steering Committee, which has spent the past few months refreshing and updating the Plan, which was originally written in 2002.
“After five years, it was time to refresh the document,” said Karen Belaire, McMaster's vice-president administration. “We are using this opportunity to educate members of the community about the Campus Master Plan: what it is, why we have it and what it means for them.”
While the Plan has been updated to reflect new developments on campus, the six principles used to guide its drafting in 2002 remain unchanged:
Ian Finlay, McMaster Students Union vice-president finance was impressed with the plan.
“I'm happy to see that the University is focusing on keeping the campus a pedestrian friendly area,” he said. “Issues like environmental sustainability and campus accessibility are very important to students. I'm glad to see the University addressing those sorts of issues.”
The refreshed Campus Master Plan now awaits approval by the Board of Governors.
