With some sophisticated know-how and a lot of creativity, a team of computer wizards from the Science Media Lab has won the competition to create a flashy multi-media page that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the McMaster Nuclear Reactor (MNR).

“The winning design was chosen from several entries because it captured the spirit of innovation here at McMaster, and specifically, at the nuclear reactor,” says Chris Heysel, director of MNR. “We were really looking for something that illustrates the important role we play on campus and celebrates the renewed interest we are seeing in the nuclear energy industry.”

The new multimedia page is a push towards a more interactive, media-rich experience, says Chris McAllister, media specialist supervisor at the lab, and one of the winners.

“The nuclear reactor has always been a beacon of technology, engineering and science and continues to be an important resource for modern science,” he adds. “We wanted to capture this as an online resource that illustrates the connection between the reactor's rich history and its promising future.”

McAllister and his fellow contributors – Greg Atkinson, Alan Teo, both media specialists, and student Vladimir Popovic – will share a prize of $500. The new multi-media page will be incorporated in to the MNR website in the coming weeks, so check back with the Daily News.
