Do you know a truly outstanding alumnus or alumna?

The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually to McMaster graduates whose accomplishments are of national or international significance, as well as those who have made a significant impact in their chosen field.

Past recipients have attained a high level of distinction and achievement through scholarship, research, teaching, creative contributions to the arts or sciences or service to society.

Last year’s recipient, Dr. Roger Mitchell, is widely regarded as the world’s leading authority on the occurrence and genesis of alkaline rocks. A graduate from the Faculty of Science (1969) with a PhD in Geology, Mitchell is a fellow the Royal Society of Canada and the Mineralogical Society of America, and is one of the few honorary fellows of the Geological Society of India. He remains a professor emeritus at Lakehead University, and is one of the university’s most decorated researchers.

Most years, two Distinguished Alumni Awards are offered – one in the Arts (Humanities, Performing and Fine Arts, Social Sciences and Business) and one in the Sciences (Science, Engineering and Health Sciences).

Recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award are chosen by the Selection Committee from the pool of nominations submitted. Nominations will be retained and reconsidered annually for a period of three years. Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented at Fall Convocation, and cannot be conferred in absentia.

Nominations for this year’s award will close on Monday, March 31.
