The Hamilton Next Generation Project, part of the Hamilton Economic Summit, is working to develop strategies to make Hamilton a magnet for the next generation. As part of its community engagement and consultation process, the Next Generation Project is looking for participation in a survey on what residents think of Hamilton.
“An aging population, changing demographics, the shift away from manufacturing as the city's primary industry – these are all issues that we must address,” said Ryan Moran, former president of the McMaster Students Union and member of the project team. “We really need to hear McMaster students' voices. It's integral to the future of the city.”
The Hamilton Next Generation Project is also organizing a strategy session open to people 20 to 40 years of age as part of the Hamilton Economic Summit, taking place May 17 at the Hamilton Convention Centre. Registration for the event is free and offers a unique chance to provide input on the city's retention strategy while networking with young professionals from across Hamilton.
McMaster is a founding partner of the Hamilton Economic Summit, co-chaired last year by University President Peter George and this year by Don Pether, Chair of McMaster's Board of Governors. The summit is designed to advance the city's economy and find ways to capitalize on its many strengths so that Hamilton can achieve its goals to be the best city in the country to raise a child, promote innovation, engage citizens and provide diverse economic opportunities.
