New MSU president elected

[img_inline align=”right” src=”http://padnws01.mcmaster.ca/images/Popham_John.jpg” caption=”McMaster Students Union President, John Popham”]After another marathon vote count ending around 7 a.m. Friday morning, the next McMaster Students Union (MSU) president has been named: John Popham. Popham is currently the vice-president administration of the MSU and has sat on the Student Representative Assembly and as Inter-Residence Council president.
The final ballot results were:
Brown: 1,163
Jobba: 164
Moonsammy: 124
Murray: 486
Ott: 869
Popham: 1,629
The MSU presidential election is conducted through preferential balloting where all the ballots are counted and the person with the least number of votes in the first round is eliminated with the second choice votes being distributed. This continues until the there is one candidate with at least 50 per cent of the total votes plus one.
A total of 3,261 ballots were cast in this election.
