New dean arrives at DeGroote

Leonard Waverman

Leonard Waverman, the DeGroote School of Business' new dean, says it was McMaster's reputation that drew him to the University. Over the next year, Waverman plans to engage with faculty, staff, students, alumni, businesses and the community in order to understand the opportunities that exist for the business school.

Leonard Waverman may be a new member of the McMaster community, but his years of experience in the post-secondary environment have given him an early familiarity with the University.

It was McMaster’s reputation and future opportunities for the University that drew Waverman to his new role as dean of the DeGroote School of Business.

“Our existing research strengths, our excellent faculty and staff, our strong student population and our well-known experiential learning programs are great assets,” he explains. “The ideas outlined in Forward with Integrity provide an inspiring foundation to think about the future of the University and the business school, and this document is one of the things that convinced me to come to McMaster.”

Over the next year, Waverman plans to engage with faculty, staff, students, alumni, businesses and the community in order to understand the opportunities that exist for the business school. Ultimately, Waverman foresees building a strategic plan with faculty, staff, students and the community for DeGroote focused on defining a distinctive reputation and propelling the School on the path to innovation and excellence in business education and research.

“Since arriving in Ontario, I have been impressed by the tremendous amount of activity going on at McMaster and in the region,” he explains. “The potential for DeGroote is enormous, and I see great opportunities for collaboration with departments within McMaster and also in the wider community.”
