Phillipson spent the day at McMaster talking with researchers and administrators and visiting a variety of laboratories to see first-hand how McMaster is putting the CFI's money to work.

At a morning reception for McMaster's New Opportunities award recipients, Phillipson talked about the Foundation's mandate and made it clear that, although the CFI is an infrastructure program, it is the people and not the equipment that contribute to the success of Canada's research enterprise.

University President Peter George said the CFI has been the catalyst for creating partnerships that have led to significant investment in the University's infrastructure. To date, the CFI has awarded McMaster more than $73 million to support 109 projects across the disciplines. With partnership contributions, this amounts to a $170-million investment.
