Students interested in learning more about biomedical engineering are invited to participate in a live webcast today (Tuesday, March 8) at 7 p.m.

During the event, faculty members will introduce McMaster's new graduate program in biomedical engineering. It is a unique program that resides equally within the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Health Sciences, and offers degrees at Master's and PhD levels.

“While biomedical engineering programs typically reside in either a medical or engineering faculty, our program draws resources equally from both faculties,” said John Brash, professor of chemical engineering. “The goal of this program is to develop biomedical engineers who are true interdisciplinarians fluent in the languages of both medicine and engineering.”

Those interested in participating in the webcast can do so by visiting http://nextstep.mcmaster.ca. More detailed information about the graduate program is available at http://msbe.mcmaster.ca.

“Biomedical engineering is one of the most rapidly growing sectors within healthcare,” said Carl Richards, associate dean, graduate studies for the Faculty of Health Sciences. “The need for highly trained professionals in this field continues to increase. Graduates of our program will be sought after by biomedical and biotechnology industries, as well as hospitals, governments and academic institutions.”

The Graduate Program in Biomedical Engineering is being offered through the new McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering. The School builds on existing bio-engineering-related activities at the University and expands into emerging areas of biomolecular, biomedical and bioengineering research.

Note: The program is pending approval by The Ontario Council of Graduate Studies.
