Senate has approved a new combined honours BA in health studies and another subject. The new program explores contemporary and historical meanings and practices associated with health and health care from an arts perspective.

Students will develop their ability to analyze and interpret health-related information in such contexts as the media, public policy, community-based advocacy, theories and practices of health and healing, literature and the arts.

The interdisciplinary approach considers the broad social and cultural context of health and illness. While it examines modern medicine in the Canadian context, the program also explores other theories of health, illness and health care from an international perspective.

Four Faculties are contributing courses to the program and some 425 students are currently registered in the initial course for the program, HS1A03.

The new program differs from the Bachelor of Health Sciences Program that was approved by Senate in the spring of 1999.
