The McMaster Museum of Art (MMA) is proud to welcome a new member to its team: the dynamic and widely respected Ihor Holubizky, who has been appointed the Museum's senior curator.

An art and cultural historian, musician and composer, Ihor Holubizky has held curatorial positions in Canada – at the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Kelowna Art Gallery and, most recently, Museum London – and in Australia, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, and the Queensland University of Technology Cultural Precinct and Art Museum, Brisbane. He has also taught at the Ontario College of Art and has guest lectured in Canada, the United States, Brazil, Japan and Australia.

“Ihor's appointment is a real coup for the Museum,” says Carol Podedworny, museum director and chief curator. “He has long been considered one of the top senior curators in the country. For the McMaster Museum of Art, a university-affiliated museum with one of the top collections in Canada and an important teaching role, Ihor is an exceptionally fine choice.”

Holubizky has been a pivotal figure in the Canadian and international art scene since the late 1970's.

“I look forward to working with Ihor on the development of a dynamic and rich curatorial program for the Museum as well as on innovative museological projects that will reflect the standard of innovation and progress encouraged at McMaster University,” said Podedworny.

Holubizky holds a BA in history and political science. His PhD studies were undertaken in art history at the University of Queensland, Australia.

The appointment took place late last month.
