The alumni, all practicing artists, were selected by a jury of noted Canadian artists (Sally McKay, John Hartman '73 and David Merritt).

Established at McMaster in 1962, the Studio Art Program offers small classes, an informal community atmosphere and enormous opportunity for exchange between students and faculty. The faculty, a team of working artists, provide encouragement and instruction in every media from the traditional to the conceptual, while the students explore the possibilities. Reciprocal is intended to showcase some of McMaster's finest artists while exploring the extent of the teacher/student relationship after graduation.

“As a conduit of mutual exchange, Reciprocal brings together the activities of the University, the Museum and the Canadian arts community — McMaster University by virtue of the art and artists on display, the Museum as a campus-affiliated institution involved in the production of contemporary exhibitions, and the Canadian arts community as the public arm of the Museum's practices,” says museum director and curator Carol Podedworny,

Reciprocal runs Sept. 11 through Nov. 1, with a public reception on Thursday, Sept. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. An exhibition catalogue with essays by Sally McKay and Carol Podedworny is available. As a complement to the exhibition, an artists' panel discussion will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
