The McMaster Students Union (MSU) has taken steps to limit its use of plastic bottles.
The MSU's main office, as well as the Student Health Education Centre and COMPASS
are now plastic bottle-free zones as a result of a new initiative that MSU president Mary
Koziol hopes will encourage members of the McMaster community to think about the
choices they make.
“As a society we have a “use and toss” mentality, but we need to start moving away
from that,” she said. “By going plastic bottle-free, we really want people to think about
reducing and reusing.”
As part of the campaign, the MSU has encouraged its full-time staff to reduce or
eliminate its use of plastic water bottles, and the Union Market now offers juice and
soft drinks in cans.
The student organization recommends staff buy canned or glass beverages or use
refillable containers at water stations on campus.
