That's why the McMaster Students Union is calling on campus departments to donate food to area food banks.
The campus wide food drive starts today, Tuesday, Aug. 7 and runs until Friday, Aug 17. Staff, faculty, and students are encouraged to bring donations to the following MSU services:
Donation boxes will be placed at these locations, and monetary donations will be accepted at the MSU office.
“Even though there are fewer students on campus this time of year, there is still a large McMaster community on campus,” says Arati Sharma, vice-president education at the MSU. “During the school year, we run an on-campus food bank, so supporting Hamilton community food banks through donations seems like a logical extension.”
A Hamilton Spectator article printed last week stated that one area food bank was forced to close and several others are in need of donations because the demand for food exceeded the supply.
“We are all part of the Hamilton community,” says Sharma. “It is important that we work together to address this need.”
Sharma encourages other McMaster departments and services to provide space for donation boxes.
