Each year, the MSU employs students in a variety of part-time positions, including managers for its 17 service departments that range from environmental to diversity groups.

“These jobs are a fantastic opportunity for students to take on student leadership roles, as well as get involved in both their school and their student union,” said Ryan Moran, vice-president administration at the MSU. “Many of these services are essential to students, whether it be through ensuring student safety and well-being, or through a broader concept of increasing acceptance of different perspectives and working towards creating a tolerant and inclusive campus community.”

The MSU employs more than 300 students in various positions throughout the year. To be eligible for employment with the MSU, a student must carry a course load of at least 18 units.

Moran stressed the importance of getting work experience before graduation.

He said the jobs offered by the MSU “allow students to grow as they begin to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses, particularly in respect to their supervisory, financial, communicative, administrative and promotional abilities. As well, it allows for the advancement of their personal professional development, providing useful resume experience that can help ensure their success as they pursue their lives beyond Mac.”
