Move-in week 2021: What you need to know

Move-in is always a special time at McMaster. Here's what you need to know about dates, directions, safety measures and other information for the extended move-in period from August 27 to September 4.

Moving boxes. Bittersweet “see you soons”. New friendships. Move-in is always a special time at McMaster, but the arrival of this year’s residence students will be one of the first signs of life returning to campus.

This year’s move-in will be a subdued event taking place over nine days from August 27 to September 4, 2021. The extended move-in period is one of several enhanced safety measures in place to keep incoming students, their families, and McMaster staff safe.

To reduce traffic congestion and ensure social distancing between groups, students are expected to book a move-in time slot for their specific building and will bring their own helpers to bring their items into their residence space. This year, we anticipate Sunday, August 29th will be move-in’s busiest day with up to 592 students moving in over 12 hours, a significant reduction from 2019’s peak move-in day of 1723 students.

Housing & Conference Services professional staff will be on campus throughout move-in, while Faculty reps have been asked to avoid both residence quads of campus this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Information for McMaster staff attending campus between Aug. 27 and Sept. 4

Increased traffic will be noticeable on both East and West entrances to campus during the move-in period. Lot G and Q will be closed to pass holders and used exclusively for residence Move-In during the days and times below.
