The community is invited to join the class for the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine's annual Mini-Med School, which starts Tuesday, March 6.

The program is organized by medical students who invite their favourite professors to give lectures each Tuesday for seven weeks. Each class includes two separate sessions which explore the scientific basis of topical medical issues followed by a question and answer session.

Topics this year include current issues like new vaccines, Alzheimer's, sexually transmitted diseases, the allergy epidemic, cholesterol and concerns about vaccinations.

The cost is $125 for adults and $75 for seniors and students. Last year, students gave $7,000 from proceeds of the program to charities chosen by the speakers.
