The tragic shooting at Dawson College in Montreal on Wednesday has shocked people across the country. We offer our sympathies to the family and friends of the young woman who died, to those who were injured, and to the many students, faculty and staff who will forever live with the memory of this terrible event.

Along with the shock that this happened at a Canadian college, such violence can make us feel unsettled and shake our sense of security. It also reminds us of the importance of speaking out against violence, to practicing tolerance, and to strengthening our resolve to do all we can to prevent such an attack from happening again.

Please remember that there are support services for students, faculty and staff who may feel they need assistance. The flags on campus will be at half-mast today to mark this very sad occurrence.

Sincerely,

Peter George
