McMaster’s United Way campaign exceeds target

McMaster's United Way Campaign has exceeded its 2008 target, bringing in $216,870.10 for the United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton. In times of economic peril, this is call for a celebration.

McMaster's United Way Campaign committee has achieved not only its $210,000 monetary goal, but has seen an increase of close to $40,000 in new donations and an increase in participation across campus from the 2007 campaign.

The McMaster community has demonstrated its ability to shine in difficult economic times and express compassion for those in our community. There is a culture and spirit of generosity at McMaster and the news of the declining economy awakened this spirit in us – which was made evident through donations, payroll deductions and support of the numerous special events, draws and initiatives.

“The co-chairs of the McMaster United Way Campaign have acknowledged with thanks the hard work of the members of the campaign committee, says Betty Ann Levy, co-chair of McMaster's United Way Campaign. “They not only approached the McMaster community for personal contributions but also organized and championed special events and put enormous effort into the public communications surrounding the campaign. Their efforts resulted in the impressive community response that led to the McMaster United Way Campaign's ultimate success.”

The United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton provides funding and other support to programs operating within local agencies. They provide leadership and experience to the non-profit sector and help connect community members to long-term solutions for predominant issues in the Burlington and Greater Hamilton area. Through community partnerships, the United Way's employees and volunteers look for gaps and opportunities in services and invest in a combination of programs that will have the greatest impact for communities in the most effective way.
