Two students started their academic careers at McMaster this month having earned an important designation.

Pooja Srikanth (Engineering), a graduate of Bishop PF Reding CSS in Milton, and Marta Skreta (Science), a graduate of Bishop Allen Academy in Toronto, were named as recipients of Schulich Leader Scholarships, placing them among a distinguished  group of first-year students at 20 universities across Canada.

The scholarships are awarded to students in the STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), and
each participating university is responsible for selecting two Schulich Leaders for its institution.

Schulich Leaders are selected from a pool of nominees put forward by Canadian high schools, secondary schools and Cégeps.

One scholarship is valued at $60,000 and is designated for a Schulich Leader pursuing a degree in a science, technology or mathematics program.  The second scholarship is valued at $80,000 and is designated for a Schulich Leader pursuing a degree in an engineering program.

Here, McMaster’s 2014 scholars share their thoughts on their studies, their decisions to come to McMaster and what it means to receive a Schulich Leader Scholarship:
