McMaster’s career site goes green

McMaster's career web site has a brand new look and now provides applicants with contemporary, paperless tools to manage their resumes and job applications.
Effective today, employees and external applicants will be able to apply for jobs using the secure, online system. By building a profile, applicants are able to create up to three resumes within the system. Applicants can update their resumes, prepare cover letters specifically targeted to the job for which they are applying, and create job alerts which allow the career site to send a notification when a specific position is posted.
The site's enhanced functionality does not end with the job seeker, however. Hiring departments are now able to receive, review, and track applicants throughout the recruitment process all within the same system. The administrative functions of the system, called MacTRAC, are fully capable of managing the recruitment process from requesting a position through the hiring process. Full functionality is being tested as a pilot project in specific departments but all hiring departments will be able to use the applicant tracking tools immediately.
Karen Belaire, vice-president administration says that career services' new technology is consistent with the University's strategic plan, called Inspiring Transformation.
“Our first objective was to provide applicants with a user-friendly, secure environment for storing resumes and applying for jobs,” said Belaire. “The second goal is to provide hiring departments and human resources with an integrated, paperless tool for job requisitions, approvals, job evaluation, recruitment postings, candidate selection and orientation.”
Belaire also points out that the system addresses immediate needs, but also offers significant opportunities to create a paperless process for applicants and administrators.
