McMaster VP Advancement taking on a new role

After more than three decades of dedication to McMaster Vice-President, University Advancement Mary Williams is taking on a new challenge at the University of Toronto.  She will be leaving McMaster at the beginning of May.


After more than three decades of dedication to McMaster, Vice-President, University Advancement Mary Williams is taking on a new challenge as the Assistant Vice-President, Divisional Relations within University Advancement at the University of Toronto.  She will be leaving McMaster at the beginning of May.

“While Mary is always the first to recognize that it takes a team of people to deliver great results,” said president, David Farrar, “she has been instrumental in many McMaster accomplishments. She has been a leader in setting new standards for philanthropy at McMaster, generating many transformative gifts for the university. She has built highly strategic government relations, communication and marketing teams, and has energetically renewed the alumni program, the alumni association and the stewardship and advancement programs that support the Faculties and the University’s success.”

Hallmarks of Mary’s leadership have been a deep commitment to a strong set of values and principles including the importance of teamwork, respect and integrity. Her personal, professional and caring approach created a dynamic, integrated and inclusive team. Mary has earned deep respect from her colleagues, forged lasting connections with donors, alumni and friends of the University, and won a national reputation as one of the country’s most outstanding Advancement leaders.

A proud McMaster graduate, Williams returned to the university in 1994 as Director of Alumni Advancement becoming the Vice-President of University Advancement in 2011.

“I’m looking forward to a new adventure,” said Williams. “McMaster has played such an important role in my professional and personal development.  I know that there is amazing leadership and a strong team in place at the university which will ensure that the successes we’ve enjoyed together will continue into the future.”

Williams will be leaving McMaster for her new role at the beginning of May.
