A variety of guest speakers, including an academic skills counsellor and a peer mentor from the Centre for Student Development, the Library's first year experience librarian, and faculty member, Joe Kim will discuss strategies for achieving academic success and answer guests questions.

The event is an opportunity for parents to become aware of some of the services available to help students succeed in balancing the demands of a university education.

Last year's event was well-received by parents, such as Dale Marshall, who commented: “It gave me some insights into the resources for academic success that are available to my student. I could then better talk with him about how he was preparing himself for the transition to different learning strategies from high school to university.”

Parents and students will also be able to participate in tours of the four campus libraries and speak to representatives from Career Services, the Office of Academic Integrity, the First Year Experience Office and Campus Security.

The Library anticipates an even greater turnout of students and parents attending this year's Parent Night, taking place on Thursday, Oct. 16 in CIBC Hall at 7 p.m.
