The McMaster United: Leading the Way campaign aims to raise $225,000 for the charity, which supports 134 programs at 72 agencies in the Hamilton and Burlington area. With better-than-anticipated support last year, the McMaster United Way committee is confident that they'll get the support needed to reach their ambitious goal.

“Our financial gifts create possibilities and opportunities for those in our community who need it the most,” said Michele Corbeil, United Way committee co-chair. “It is incredibly important to give back to McMaster and to the wider community in which we live and work.”

The campaign will launch with McMaster President Peter George and Vice-President Administration Roger Couldrey serving hamburgers at a BBQ on Oct. 19, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Mills Plaza (located between the Student Centre and Mills Library). For a donation members of the McMaster community can enjoy a hamburger or vegetarian burger and drink. Students from the Golden Key Society will also be selling Kernels popcorn at the BBQ and in front of Commons on October 19 and 20.

Hats Off to the United Way, which will see volunteers collecting donations from those entering campus at the Sterling Street entrance, will take place the morning of Oct. 20.

The popular Inter-Residence Council stairwalk is back again this year, as is the much-anticipated parking lottery, which now features a year's free parking in a spot chosen by the winner, a free bike locker for a year and a free six-month HSR bus pass. Tickets will be on sale in late October at Titles Bookstore, Mediashop.com, the David Braley Athletic Centre, the Off-Campus Resource Centre, the Downtown Centre and Compass until Nov. 20.
