McMaster will host a Fullbright Scholar and a Killam Fellow – and send one south of the border – under the largest academic exchange program in the world.

Cancer researcher and Fullbright Scholar Polly Newcomb and biology student and Killam Fellow Anand Adhikari will travel to McMaster while McMaster history student and Fellow Samhita Misra will head to the State University of New York, Plattsburgh.

Fullbright is a scholarship program created to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries.

The Killam Fellowships allow undergraduates from Canada and the United States to participate in a program of binational residential exchange.

Newcomb, currently at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, will become a Visiting Research Chair in Science and the Environment.

Her work focuses on genetics, epidemiology, screening and survival for colorectal, breast and other cancers.

Adhikari studies at American University and is interested in pursuing an MD/PhD. He one days hopes to become a principal investigator conducting research and teaching at the university level.

Misra’s research interests range from indigenous cultures and resistance to the role of technology in radical social change.

The Fullbright program operates in more than 150 countries and has produced more than 300,000 alumni.
