Brink's Canada Ltd. employees will be heading to university this fall-the first time for
many of them-for a program specially designed to hone their management and
leadership skills.

Beginning today, about 80 employees from all over the country are attending a
weeklong customized business administration course at McMaster's Ron Joyce Centre,
offered through the Centre for Continuing Education. There, they will focus on finance,
human resources, marketing, operations and general management, among other areas
of study.

“This program is about creating well-rounded managers who understand the functions
of business and how human behaviour impacts the effectiveness of Brink's as an
organization,” said Tracey Taylor-O'Reilly, director of the Centre for Continuing
Education. “By committing to the quality and depth of this university program, Brink's
will provide a solid theoretical and practical foundation for managers to allow them to
excel today and to solve the organizational challenges of tomorrow.”

The course is the first of five that will lead to a McMaster University Certificate in
Business Administration. Courses will be offered in a blended format which will include
classroom work and online instruction. Participants can then use this credit toward a
degree at McMaster or elsewhere if they so choose. Brink's Canada Ltd. will also bring in
its own experts to complement course material covered by McMaster instructors.

“Our people are pumped up about this, and Brink's is serious about strong education for
our leaders. We want to broaden our horizons and our perspectives on the larger
business world,” said Glenn Thede, director of training and development at Brink's
Canada Ltd. “We also want to dig deeper into learning so that, as a company of highly
committed employees, we are even more confident and skilled as we approach a
demanding future.”

The inaugural class is expected to complete the five business courses – at the rate of
one course per year-by the year 2015.

“As a company that has been a leader in the secure logistics industry for over 150 years,
you know we are in this for the long haul, so a program that will develop our people in a
few years fits our culture,” said Thede.

“This is a truly innovative endeavour customized specifically for Brink's,” said Carolyn
McEwen, assistant director at the Centre for Continuing Education. “Our business
administration certificate sits at the very core but we have layered some Brink's-specific
content and speakers to enrich the classroom experience and truly tailor this to their
workplace.”

Last year, the Centre for Continuing Education won three prestigious national awards for
quality and innovation in the delivery of corporate training.
