Sixteen McMaster students have received National In-Course Excellence Awards from the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation. The awards recognize and foster active citizenship, creative leadership and academic excellence in upper-year post-secondary students.

These awards are given to students who have not been previously recognized with a substantial merit scholarship. They have been specifically created for those students who, after enrolment in a post-secondary program, begin to demonstrate qualities of leadership, community involvement, innovation and academic achievement that inspire others and make their world – be it on campus or in their community – a better place to be.

McMaster's recipients are:

  • A first level award of $5,000 renewable for one additional year was awarded to Sammy Ali.
  • Second level awards of $4,000 renewable for one additional year were given to Christine Elder, Jennifer Galle, Thien Huynh, Andrea Valois and Kathleen Luckhart.
  • Ten third level awards of $4,000 went to Pamela An, Tijana Bajic, Clara Blakelock, Andrew Hughes, Joanna Jarecki, Nicole Kallmayer, Bayley Mitchell, Winnie Siu, Graham Trull, Gillian Watson.

The Board of Directors of the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation approved the list of 2004 In-Course Excellence Award Laureates in the second year of excellence awards for in-course students. In total, it awarded 100 first level awards, 200 second level awards and 647 third level awards.
