Vishniac will become the University's ninth president commencing July 1, 2012.

“McMaster has been a wonderful home for the past four-and-a-half years,” said Busch-
Vishniac. “But the opportunity to lead an institution the calibre of the University of
Saskatchewan doesn't come along very often and I look forward to building on the
momentum of its teaching and learning and research programs.”

Busch-Vishniac has been McMaster's provost and vice-president Academic since joining
the University in 2007. She came to McMaster from Johns Hopkins University where she
was dean of engineering and a professor of mechanical engineering.

“Ilene has played a significant role at McMaster,” said president Patrick Deane. “The
University of Saskatchewan will benefit from her broad experience and understanding of
the issues facing post-secondary institutions in Canada. On behalf of McMaster I wish
her every success as she takes on her new role.”

Busch-Vishniac had announced earlier this fall her intention not to run for a second
term as provost. A search committee was appointed by Senate in October.
