McMaster President George named to Order of Ontario

File photo.”]McMaster University President Peter George has been named to the Order of Ontario. The 27 recipients were announced today by the Honourable David Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

George, who is also a member of the Order of Canada, joined McMaster's faculty in 1965. He became president in 1995 and is currently serving his third five-year term.

Nominated by the public, George is among 27 outstanding individuals to receive Ontario's highest honour this year, including members of academia, the public sector and the media. The Order of Ontario recognizes excellence and achievement in any field.

In addition to George, former Chief Justice of Ontario the Honourable R. Roy McMurtry, novelist Paul-Francois Sylvestre and Royal Ontario Museum director and CEO William Thorsell will also be invested in the Order of Ontario at a ceremony to be held at Queen's Park on Jan. 24.

Nominations for next year's Order of Ontario recipients are due Feb. 28, 2008.
