McMaster named one of world’s Top 100 universities

McMaster University has been named one of the Top 100 universities in the world, one of only four Canadian universities to make the list.
The annual poll published by China's Shanghai Jiao Tong University bases its findings on several criteria of academic and research performance including Nobel prize winners, frequently cited researchers, scholarly articles that appear in Nature and Science, and the per capita performance of the institution. Complete
methodology details are at http://ed.sjtu.edu.cn/rank/2005/ARWU2005Methodology.htm#Meth1.
"These rankings confirm McMaster's status as a world-class research institution.
Of the four Canadian universities who rank in the top 100, ours is the only
medium-sized university – we continue to punch above our weight,"
says Mamdouh Shoukri, vice-president of research and international affairs.
"It's both gratifying and exciting to see that McMaster is counted among
the world's best, a testament to the quality of our researchers and the University’s
academic tradition of excellence."
A high ranking in the survey is considered a huge boost to a university because
it draws the attention of potential faculty and student recruits the world over.
McMaster is listed 90th in the world ranking, and 55th in the regional ranking
(which includes North and Latin American universities). The other Canadian universities
on the list were University of British Columbia, McGill University, and University
of Toronto.
