This year, McMaster University Libraries are listed in 94th place, up eight spots from last year.

The index is composed of four quantitative data elements, including total library expenditures, salaries and wages of professional staff, spending on library materials, and the numbers of professional and support staff. According to The Chronicle, the index measures these historical data elements in which ARL university libraries most resemble one another.

McMaster University Libraries' rank this year places it among the top 100 North American research libraries. This is a significant improvement from previous standings, including the 102nd place last year and 106th in the 2006-7 index.

For University librarian Jeff Trzeciak, “It represents the University's commitment to our transformation and in particular a commitment to strong campus libraries.”
