McMaster launches a week of welcome

Photo by Matt Terry.”]The University officially kicked off Welcome Week this weekend with students moving into
residence at Bates, Brandon, Edwards, Matthews, McKay and Les Prince Saturday and
Hedden, Mary Keyes, Moulton, Wallingford, Woodstock and Whidden on Sunday.

The week's events include traditional favourites such as the PJ Parade, airband
competition and concerts at Faculty Hollow as well as new events such as MacQuest,
which takes students across campus and the village of Westdale.

Students will also attempt to set a new world record for the group performance of the
alternative form of handshake known as the “fist bump”.

Orientation events also include academic sessions, including talks on effective note-
taking and how to succeed in evaluations, as well as a community cleanup and the
Canada-wide Shinerama car wash in support of cystic fibrosis research.
