Sue Inglis, professor and faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology at McMaster University, received the Dr. Garth Paton Distinguished Service Award at the 2005 North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) Conference June 3, in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Named for one of the founding members of NASSM, the Dr. Garth Paton Distinguished Service Award is one of the organization's most prestigious honours. It is presented annually to one member, and nominees must have at least 10 years of experience in the field and must have an ongoing exemplary record of service to NASSM and the profession.

“I am very honored to receive this award. Service within an academic society which allows one to work toward excellence in teaching, research and our professional standing is incredibly rewarding,” said Inglis, who has been at McMaster since 1977.

Janet Parks, distinguished teaching professor from Bowling Green University in Ohio, in presenting Inglis the award said, “We are exceptionally fortunate she has chosen to share herself with NASSM.”

Inglis has contributed to the North American Society for Sport Management since 1986. She has held offices of secretary (1989-1992), president-elect (1993-1994), president (1994-1995), and past president (1995-1996). She was also part of the Future Directions Task Force and the Strategic Planning Task Force with the organization.

Her service includes contribution to curricular standards on accreditation task force and the NASSM Accreditation Council from 1989 to 1995. She has contributed to sport management research by serving on the editorial review board of the Journal of Sport Management from 1996 to 2001. Among her publications, Inglis has six articles in NASSM's Journal of Sport Management in addition to making numerous professional conference presentations.
