McMaster University is hosting the “Hoops for the Cure” basketball event on Wednesday, Jan. 30 in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The event is an initiative of the Canadian Inter-University Sport (CIS) and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), with events held at every school that participate in women's basketball across Canada.

McMaster will play host to the Brock Badgers with the women tipping off at 6 p.m. followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.

McMaster will collect donations in support of breast cancer research and will host a silent auction featuring an autographed pink jersey, basketball and special edition warm-up tops that will be worn at the game.

“Every year, thousands of Canadians are touched by breast cancer,” said Therese Quigley, director of Athletics & Recreation. “McMaster
is committed to working with the CIS Women's Basketball Coaches Association and the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Foundation to help create a future without breast cancer.”

The CIS Women's Basketball Coaches Association plans to announce the grand total of all money raised at the CIS Championship in Saskatoon in March.
