McMaster hosts Friends of Football Gala

Dinner and Reception on Wednesday April 20, 2005 at Michelangelo's Banquet Centre. The Reception begins at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner
at 7 p.m.

The honourary chairman of the dinner is David Braley. Braley is the owner and president of Orlick Industries, an automotive parts manufacturer that has five plants in the Hamilton area. He is currently the owner of the Canadian Football League (CFL), B.C. Lions Football Club and former owner of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. His roles in the CFL have included governor, chairman and acting commissioner.

The guest speaker for the evening will be Stephen Brunt. Brunt has been the lead sports columnist for the Globe and Mail, Canada's National Newspaper since 1989.

Brunt is also involved in broadcasting, regularly featured on Rogers
Sportsnet, The Fan 590 and CBC Radio and CBC Television. He has won the Michener Award, the country's highest award for public service journalism, and the National Magazine Award. In 2003 he was named writer of the year by Sports Media Canada.

The event co-ordinator & chairman of the gala dinner and reception is Bob Bratina. Bratina is a city council member in Ward 2 and radio personality on AM 900 CHML.

McMaster head coach Marcello Campanaro stressed the importance of the event commenting that “the McMaster Friends of Football Gala Dinner is critical to the success of the McMaster football program. The event allows us to build a relationship with the community and raise the funds required to purchase equipment, host a top notch training camp and compete at high performance level.”

More than 650 are expected to attend the gala dinner and reception including a milestone setting 50+ corporate tables.

The evening will also feature a silent auction, which will include the opportunity to bid on a three-night trip including airfare and
hotel accommodations to Calgary to see a sold out concert featuring Country Music recording artists Tim McGraw and George Canyon during the Calgary Stampede.
