Anyone launching a business, commercializing research, or developing a market opportunity for an enterprise, may want to attend Entrepreneurship 101, a free lecture series being offered by the Xerox Centre for Engineering Entrepreneurship and Innovation at McMaster University.

“Entrepreneurship 101 is designed for entrepreneurs, inventors, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, faculty, technicians and anyone in the general public interested in creating a new venture,” said Tarek Sadek, business development manager, McMaster School of Engineering Practice. “No prior knowledge of business or entrepreneurship is required.”

The series consists of a lecture every Tuesday for four weeks starting Sept. 16 and ending Oct. 7. Each lecture features a prominent expert speaking on a topic relevant to entrepreneurship. Lectures will start at 6 p.m. and run approximately one and a half to two hours.

The series kicks-off with a lecture by Tony Redpath, vice-president, partner programs, MaRS Discovery District, on Sept. 16. He will provide an introduction to technology commercialization and business creation.

Lecture two features Mark Stirling, managing director, Advanced Technology Commercialization Centre (ATCC) on Sept. 23. His topic is titled Attracting Investment: How hard can it be with a great idea like ours?

The third lecture will be presented by Laura Babcock, senior partner, Powergroup Communications on Sept. 30. She will speak about The art of the pitch.

The final lecture will be presented by Marcel Mongeon, intellectual property coach, Mongeon Consulting Inc. on Oct. 7.
