McMaster Indigenous Student Services is hosting a North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) Day to raise awareness about the Games and McMaster’s role as the Western Hub.

The David Braley Athletic Centre (DBAC) Fitzhenry Gallery (atrium foyer adjacent to Sport Hall) and Marauder Plaza will contain festivities on Thursday, March 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be samples of traditional stew and bread made by visiting Social Sciences elder-in-residence, Bertha Skye, as well as sports demonstrations, entertainment, organization booths, and volunteer recruitment.

The 2017 Games will be the first to be hosted in the eastern region of North America, and the first time the Games will be held east of the prairies within Canada. McMaster will be the host of two Games competitions and 1,800 participants in the Athletes Village and Cultural Festival in July 2017.

The Games will provide Indigenous youth, aged 13-19, the opportunity to showcase their athletic through 14 sports and celebrate their heritage, in Canada’s largest city and surrounding regions, under a significant international spotlight. More than 5,000 athletes and 2,000 volunteers will take part in the Toronto 2017 NAIG.
