McMaster graduate research coming to a small screen near you
PhD and master's students from across McMaster's faculties have been crafting one-minute films describing their research in a way that's accessible for a broad audience.
Graduate student researchers are competing to earn top spot in McMaster’s inaugural GradFlix Final Showcase, screening on YouTube Premieres at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30.

For the past several weeks, PhD and master’s students from across McMaster’s faculties have been crafting one-minute films describing their research in a way that’s accessible for a broad audience.
GradFlix allows for creativity on the part of the filmmakers — students can use animations, original music, dance, poetry, even humour — while still focusing on improving communication skills with non-specialist audiences.
Films were submitted to the School of Graduate Studies and after preliminary adjudication, 12 videos will be featured in the 2021 GradFlix final:

- Calvin Zhu, Faculty of Engineering
- Emily Wood, Faculty of Science
- Erica Dao, Faculty of Science
- Loa Gordon, Faculty of Social Sciences
- Megan Vierhout, Faculty of Health Sciences
- Nicholas Simard, Faculty of Engineering
- Nicole Rakowski, DeGroote School of Business and Faculty of Health Sciences
- Pradhariny Prabagaran, Faculty of Health Sciences
- Rachael Finnerty, Faculty of Science
During the showcase, all 12 films will screen, winners will be announced, and viewers will have an opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice award.
